Jimmy Smith’s 1972 Monte Carlo

OPGI customer Jimmy Smith of Weogufka, AL recently sent us a few of photos of his 1972 Monte Carlo. Jimmy is the car’s second owner, having purchased the Monte in 1975. Technically, Jimmy’s car is a Monte Carlo Custom – the Custom being a one-year-only model. It was ordered with the 454 4-bbl., TH400 tranny, bucket seats, console, Rally Wheels, and all other factory options except cruise control and power windows. The Monte went through a complete restoration between 1999-2001,…

Father and Son’s Garage Built 1965 GTO 434

Photos: Tobin Family, Story: Tony Colombini After his 1963 graduation from High School, a ’64 Tempest caught the eye of Pat Tobin. He knew someday he would have one. Four years later he was drafted. Upon leaving the military in 1970 he started goofing around with cars. A ‘64 Chevy SS, a ‘70 Challenger 340, yet the Tempest eluded him. Then marriage and a family came and the car hobby came to a crawl. Fast forward to 1998, Pat’s oldest…

Cassie Nunes is a young lady who has been wrenchin’ in the garage with her dad Ernie since she was able to wrap her fingers around a wrench. She recalls that it was never a chore but…

Inspirational Interiors

When it comes to restoring a classic GM muscle car, most enthusiasts know that you’re not really finished with the job until your interior looks as good as the exterior does. There aren’t many aspects of car restoration that are more satisfying than returning a worn-out interior to its original factory fresh appearance. When your car is finally complete, hopefully you’ll be spending more of your time sitting inside the car admiring the great interior than you’ll be spending under the hood …

The Pilot Chevelle Story

Back in November at the most recent SEMA Show, we learned something new about Chevelles. It was at the Show that our staff discovered Dave Harter’s ’70 Chevelle SS and learned of its’ history as a General Motors Pilot Car, built for pre-production testing, product development and promotional purposes, and never intended to be sold to the public. Apparently all Pilot Cars were supposed to be crushed when their testing and development lives were over. Pilot Cars were hand-built, non-numbers-matching…
